Supported Agent Providers

Rebase acts as a graphical user interface (GUI) for various coding agents and AI harnesses. It integrates with existing agent subscriptions by executing their respective Command Line Interfaces (CLIs) and translating their output into a unified event stream within the application.
The project supports multiple providers including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build, OpenCode, Antigravity, Pi, omp, fx, Hermes Agent, Kiro CLI, and Devin. If these tools are installed and authenticated on your local system, Rebase manages their sessions, worktrees, and notes through its internal harness architecture.

Provider Architecture and Harnessing
Rebase uses a provider-independent harness core. Each specific agent is integrated via a dedicated adapter that implements the shared HarnessAdapter lifecycle and a protocol module that translates CLI output into Rebase-specific event types.
Harness Integration Flow
The following diagram illustrates how Rebase interacts with external agent CLIs:
This structure allows the application to handle different CLI behaviors while maintaining a consistent internal representation of transcripts, tool calls, and agent thoughts.

Configuration and Management
Users configure providers through the Settings interface, where Rebase manages binary paths and account identities. The application performs inspection of agent CLIs to verify versions and availability.
CLI Inspection and Path Overrides
Rebase attempts to auto-detect the path for supported agent CLIs. If detection fails or a specific version is required, you can manually override the binary path in the settings.
| Provider | Default Detection / Path Label | Configuration Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | claude | Local, Project, User |
| Claude Desktop | claude_desktop | User |
| Codex | codex | User |
| Cursor | cursor | Project, User |
| OpenCode | opencode | Project, User |
| Kiro CLI | kiro | Project, User |

Account Identity and Usage
Rebase retrieves identity information (such as email and subscription plans) directly from the provider CLIs. It also tracks rate limits and usage percentages for providers that expose this data, such as Claude.

Agent Skills and Portability
Rebase implements a portable "Skill" system that allows agents from different providers to share domain knowledge and instructions. Skills are stored as SKILL.md files in specific directory structures.
Skill Storage Priorities
When an agent looks for a skill, Rebase scans multiple locations in a specific order of precedence.
Skill Format Standards
To ensure portability across harnesses (Claude, Cursor, Devin, etc.), skills must follow a specific layout:
- Required File:
<name>/SKILL.md - Optional Files:
reference.md,examples.md, and ascripts/directory for helper scripts. - Frontmatter: Must include
name(lowercase, max 64 chars) anddescription(third person, max 1024 chars).

Specialized Provider Behaviors
Devin Subagents
The Devin integration supports "subagents," where a lead Devin agent spawns background tasks. Rebase translates these into nested "agent rows" in the transcript, ensuring that the work of the subagent is captured and associated with the parent session.

Claude Plugin Skills
The Claude integration supports discovering skills installed via Claude plugins. Rebase reads ~/.claude/plugins/installed_plugins.json and scans the installPath for additional skills, applying project-level scoping if the plugin is restricted to a specific repository.

Summary
Supported Agent Providers in Rebase are integrated through a flexible harness system that leverages locally installed CLIs. By abstracting the specific protocols of providers like Claude, Cursor, and Devin, Rebase provides a unified interface for managing AI-driven development workflows, including shared skills, worktree management, and subagent tracking.
