Setup and Verification
Relevant source files
The following files were used as context for generating this wiki page:The setup and verification process for AI Dev Atelier is designed to install a suite of production-grade skills into an AI agent environment, specifically targeting OpenCode. The process involves cloning the repository, running a verification script to ensure structural integrity, executing an installation script to deploy the skills, and finally, validating the installation within the agent.
The core of this system relies on shell scripts (setup.sh, install.sh) to manage the file operations, ensuring that skills are correctly placed in the agent's directory (~/.opencode/skill). Skills adhere to the Anthropic Agent Skills standard, where a SKILL.md file defines the skill's capabilities and references executable scripts within its own directory. This allows agents to discover and utilize them dynamically.

Prerequisites
Before initiating the setup, the environment must have the following tools installed.
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| Git | For cloning the repository. |
| Bash | For executing the setup and installation scripts. |
| OpenCode | The target AI agent environment where skills will be installed. |

Setup and Installation Workflow
The setup is a three-step process: cloning the repository, verifying the local skill structure, and installing the skills into the OpenCode environment. The installation script is designed to be idempotent and provides options for automated overwriting.

Step 1: Clone Repository
The first step is to clone the ai-dev-atelier repository to a local directory.
git clone https://github.com/LukasStrickler/ai-dev-atelier.git ~/ai-dev-atelier

Step 2: Verify Skill Structure (setup.sh)
The setup.sh script validates the structure of the cloned repository to ensure all necessary components are present before installation. It does not modify any files but reports on the status of the skills.
The script performs the following checks:
- Verifies that the
skillsdirectory exists. - Checks for the presence of core skills such as
code-quality,docs-check,code-review, andpr-comment-resolver. - For each skill, it validates that a
SKILL.mdfile exists. - Reports any missing or invalid skill structures.

The following flowchart details the logic within the setup.sh script.

Step 3: Install Skills (install.sh)
The install.sh script is responsible for copying the verified skills from the local repository to the OpenCode agent's skill directory, which is typically ~/.opencode/skill.
Key features of the installation script:
- It creates the target directory (
~/.opencode/skill) if it doesn't exist. - It copies each skill directory into the target location.
- Before overwriting any existing skill, it shows a diff of the changes.
- It prompts for user confirmation before overwriting, which can be bypassed with the
--yesor-yflag.

Post-Installation Verification
After running the installation script, you can verify that the skills have been successfully loaded and are available to the agent.
Sources: SETUP.md:69-71
Manual Verification
The simplest way to verify the installation is to ask the OpenCode agent directly.
Example query to agent:
"What skills are available?"
The agent should respond with a list of the newly installed skills.
| Skill | Purpose |
|---|---|
code-quality | Typecheck, lint, format, markdown validation |
docs-check | Detect documentation impact from git diffs |
docs-write | Write/update docs using standards |
git-commit | Write clear commits with Conventional Commits format |
code-review | CodeRabbit reviews (task/pr modes) |
resolve-pr-comments | Multi-agent PR comment resolution for bot reviews |
search | Web and library documentation search |
research | Academic research with evidence cards |
ui-animation | Guide tasteful UI animation implementation |

Automated Validation
For a more rigorous check, the repository includes a validation script, validate-skills.sh, located in the .test/scripts/ directory. This script checks the integrity and structure of all skills.
bash .test/scripts/validate-skills.sh
This script is useful for developers contributing to the skills to ensure their changes adhere to the project's structural requirements.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues during the setup process, refer to the following table for common problems and their solutions.
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Skills directory not found | Verify that the AI Dev Atelier repository was cloned correctly. |
SKILL.md not found | Ensure you are running the scripts from the root of the ai-dev-atelier directory. |
| Permission denied | Grant execute permissions to the script: chmod +x ~/ai-dev-atelier/install.sh. |
| Skills not appearing in agent | Confirm that the skills were installed to the correct directory, ~/.opencode/skill. |
