The Roadmap and Planned Features section outlines the strategic direction and upcoming enhancements for Agent Cowork. As an open-source alternative to Claude Cowork, the project focuses on providing a native desktop interface for AI collaboration, session management, and visual feedback for complex tasks that typically occur within a terminal environment.
Current development efforts are centered on improving the user experience through enhanced graphical configuration interfaces and deeper integration with the underlying Claude Agent SDK to provide a more robust "AI collaboration partner" experience.
## Strategic Roadmap Overview
The project follows a phased approach to transition from a basic GUI wrapper for claude-code to a fully-featured AI collaboration environment. Key milestones include finalizing configuration interfaces and expanding tool integration.
### Short-Term Goals: Configuration and Stability
The immediate focus is on replacing manual configuration file editing with integrated GUI components. While the system currently reuses ~/.claude/settings.json, providing a native settings interface is a high priority.
| Feature | Status | Description |
|---|---|---|
| GUI Configuration | In Progress | Native interface for API Key, Base URL, and Model settings. |
| Key Management | Planned | Secure handling and storage of multiple API keys. |
| Multi-platform Dist | Completed | Support for macOS (Intel/M1), Windows, and Linux. |

### Feature Development Flow
Planned features are integrated into the existing Electron architecture, utilizing the IPC bridge between the React frontend and the Node.js backend to manage AI agent states.

## Planned Core Enhancements
### GUI Configuration Interface (WIP)
As identified in the project roadmap, the transition to a full GUI configuration is actively being implemented. This module allows users to configure the Anthropic API or compatible third-party providers without editing JSON files.
Key Components:
SettingsModal: Provides input fields forapiKey,baseURL, andmodel.saveApiConfig: An IPC handler in the main process that persists these values.- API Compatibility: Designed to support any provider following the Anthropic format (e.g., MiniMax-M2.1).

### Advanced Tool Permissions
Future iterations plan to refine the DecisionPanel and permission systems. Currently, the system supports a "default allowed tools" list (Read,Edit,Bash), but more granular control over individual tool execution paths is planned.
The sequence diagram illustrates the planned refinement of the tool approval workflow.

## Technical Integration Roadmap
The project aims to deepen its integration with the @anthropic-ai/claude-agent-sdk while maintaining its status as a "real AI collaboration partner."
### SDK and Model Support
Integration with SOTA models like MiniMax-M2.1 is highlighted as a collaborative focus, specifically for handling long, multi-step tasks and digital environment navigation.
Implementation Details:
- Environment Construction: The
buildEnvForConfigfunction is designed to dynamically injectANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN,ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL, andANTHROPIC_MODELinto the agent's process. - Path Resolution: The
getClaudeCodePathfunction handles the specific requirements of packaged Electron apps to ensure the SDK can find the CLI executable in theasar.unpackeddirectory.

### Session Persistence
While SQLite is currently used for local session history, planned features include:
- Enhanced Title Generation: Improving the
generateSessionTitlelogic viaunstable_v2_prompt. - Session Portability: Enhancing the "Resume in Claude Code" feature, which currently generates a
claude --resume [id]command.

## Conclusion
The Agent Cowork roadmap prioritizes the transition from a CLI-dependent tool to a standalone native application with full GUI configuration. By leveraging the existing claude-agent-sdk and providing visual feedback loops for tool execution, the project aims to bridge the gap between terminal-based AI agents and general-purpose productivity environments.
