The OpenPoke design system is a modern, utility-first implementation built on Tailwind CSS and Next.js. It focuses on a clean "iMessage-style" interface that prioritizes readability and user engagement. The system utilizes a centralized theme configuration and custom CSS abstractions to maintain visual consistency across the multi-agent chat interface.
The design architecture relies on PostCSS for processing and Tailwind for rapid UI development, leveraging a specific "brand" color palette and customized component classes for frequently used UI elements like buttons, inputs, and chat bubbles.

Core Theme Configuration
The project extends the default Tailwind CSS theme with a custom primary color palette named brand. This palette consists of a blue-based scale ranging from 50 to 900, which is used throughout the application to establish brand identity and visual hierarchy.
Color Palette
The following table details the specific hex codes defined in the design system:
| Weight | Hex Color | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| brand-50 | #f0f7ff | Subtle backgrounds |
| brand-100 | #e1effe | Light accents |
| brand-500 | #69affd | Interaction states |
| brand-600 | #4b9ffd | Primary buttons / Outgoing bubbles |
| brand-700 | #2d8ffd | Hover states |
| brand-900 | #0a66cc | Deep text or borders |

Typography and Layout
The system applies global anti-aliasing and sets a standard text color of gray-900 on a white background. It uses standard Next.js layout patterns to ensure the application occupies the full height of the viewport.

Component Abstractions
OpenPoke uses the @apply directive in globals.css to create reusable utility abstractions for common UI components. This ensures that elements like buttons and cards remain consistent without repeating long strings of Tailwind classes.
Global UI Components
| Class | Description |
|---|---|
.btn | Inline-flex button with brand-600 background, white text, and shadow. Includes disabled states. |
.input | Full-width rounded-full input with gray borders and brand-500 focus ring. |
.card | Rounded-xl container with a subtle border and shadow. |
.chip | Rounded-full badge for small status indicators or labels. |

Chat Interface Design
The chat system is designed to mimic mobile messaging applications, specifically targeting an "iMessage-style" aesthetic. This is achieved through specialized background gradients and bubble tail styling.
Bubble Architecture
Chat bubbles are differentiated by role (user vs. assistant) using the bubble-out and bubble-in classes.
The logic for applying tails is handled conditionally in the React components: a tail is only rendered if the subsequent message is from a different sender, creating a "grouped" message appearance.

Background and Visual Enhancements
The chat container utilizes a specific radial gradient to create depth:
- Base Color:
#F5F5F7 - Gradient:
radial-gradient(circle at 10% 10%, #ffffff 0%, #f5f5f7 60%)

Interactive States and Feedback
The design system includes visual feedback for asynchronous operations, such as waiting for an agent's response.
Typing Indicator
When isWaitingForResponse is true, a TypingIndicator component is rendered. It consists of three bouncing dots with staggered animation delays to create a fluid motion effect.
Error Handling
Errors are surfaced via an ErrorBanner positioned within the input section of the chat interface, ensuring that styling for failure states is integrated into the layout rather than overlaying it.

Implementation Stack
The styling system is integrated into the build process via PostCSS.
Tailwind CSS:* Version ^3.4.10
- Autoprefixer: Ensures cross-browser compatibility.
- PostCSS: Version
^8.4.47

The Styling & Design System provides a cohesive visual language that bridges the technical multi-agent backend with a user-friendly frontend. By combining Tailwind's utility-first approach with custom CSS components, the project maintains a high-fidelity chat experience that is both performant and easy to extend.
