The Frontend Product Details View is a core route within the Product Compare application responsible for displaying comprehensive information about a specific product, identified by its unique slug. It serves as a centralized hub where users can view product specifications, brand information, and a curated list of active marketplace offers.
This module utilizes a decoupled architecture where data fetching logic is handled by a specialized API layer, while the UI components focus on rendering different states such as loading, success, "not found," and error conditions. The view is currently implemented using manual GraphQL fetching within React Router loaders, with a planned migration toward full Relay integration.

Data Architecture and Flow
The data flow for the Product Details view is initiated by the React Router loader. It follows a sequential fetching pattern where the primary product details are retrieved first, followed by associated merchant offers.
Sequential Loading Process
The following diagram illustrates the sequence of operations performed by the productDetailLoader to hydrate the view:
The loader handles both client-side and Server-Side Rendering (SSR) contexts, ensuring that cookies and request headers are forwarded when running in a server environment.

Component Specifications
ProductDetailRoute Component
The primary UI component, ProductDetailRoute, consumes data from the useLoaderData hook. It is designed to be resilient to partial data failures; for instance, if the product details are available but the merchant offers fail to load, the product info is still displayed with an "Offers unavailable" fallback.
| State | UI Representation | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Ready | Displays Name, Brand, Description, and List of Offers | Both queries succeed or only offers fail. |
| Not Found | "Product not found." message | GraphQL returns null for the product slug. |
| Error | "Product unavailable." message | Network failure or GraphQL syntax errors. |
| Empty Offers | "No active offers yet." | merchantProducts returns an empty edge list. |

API and Data Models
The implementation defines strict TypeScript interfaces for the product and its associated offers to ensure type safety across the loader and components.
Data Structures
export interface ProductDetail {
id: string;
name: string;
slug: string;
description: string | null;
brandName: string | null;
}
export interface ProductOffer {
id: string;
merchantName: string;
url: string;
priceText: string | null;
}

GraphQL Queries
The module utilizes two primary GraphQL operations:
- ProductDetail: Fetches the core identity and descriptive attributes of the product using its slug.
- ProductOffers: Fetches up to 6 active merchant listings. It includes a
latestPricelookup which is formatted into a display string (e.g., "199.99 USD") by the frontend parser.

Security and Validation
The Product Details view implements several layers of data validation and security:
- URL Normalization: Offer URLs are validated and normalized using the
URLconstructor. Onlyhttp:andhttps:protocols are permitted to prevent XSS viajavascript:links. - Price Formatting: The
formatPriceTextutility handles both numeric and string-based price data from the API, ensuring a consistent display format or returningnullif the data is malformed. - Error Boundaries: The loader wraps operations in
try/catchblocks to prevent the entire route from crashing on network failures, instead returning a structuredstatus: "error"payload.

Summary
The Frontend Product Details View provides a robust, state-aware interface for product exploration. By separating the API fetching logic from the UI rendering and implementing strict validation for external data (like merchant URLs and prices), the system maintains high reliability and security within the product catalog.
