Testing Strategy & Results

Introduction
The NEXUS testing strategy encompasses a multi-layered approach to ensure the integrity of a cyberpunk-themed digital account and trial tracking system. The scope covers comprehensive backend API validation, including JWT authentication and CRUD operations for accounts, emails, and trials, alongside frontend visual and functional verification. The system utilizes a specialized communication protocol between a main agent and a testing agent to maintain a real-time state of feature implementation and operational status.
Testing is primarily driven by automated Python suites for the backend and manual/visual verification for the frontend's glassmorphic UI and particle effects. Results are consolidated into a centralized tracking document that monitors "stuck" tasks, priority levels, and historical status updates to ensure continuous integration quality.

Testing Architecture & Protocol
The project employs a structured testing protocol where tasks are divided into backend and frontend categories. Each task is tracked with metadata including its implementation status, working status, associated file path, and a "stuck count" to identify persistent issues.
Communication Flow
The interaction between development and testing is governed by a YAML-based data structure within test_result.md. This ensures that the testing agent has full context of recent implementation details before beginning a test cycle.
The diagram shows the iterative loop between implementation updates and agent-based testing.

Backend API Testing
The backend is validated using a comprehensive Python testing suite located in backend_test.py. This suite targets the FastAPI endpoints defined in server.py to ensure data persistence and security.
Test Categories and Results
| Task | Methodology | Results | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| JWT Authentication | Verification of registration, login, and protected route access with Bearer tokens. | 4/4 Tests Passed | ✅ Working |
| Account CRUD | Creation, retrieval (isolated by user), update, and deletion of account objects. | 5/5 Tests Passed | ✅ Working |
| Email CRUD | Validation of provider, purpose, and security status fields across all operations. | 5/5 Tests Passed | ✅ Working |
| Trial CRUD | Testing of date-sensitive trial objects and cancellation status updates. | 5/5 Tests Passed | ✅ Working |
| Dashboard Stats | Verification of JSON structure for spend, counts, and security scores. | 1/1 Tests Passed | ✅ Working |

Backend Test Execution Logic
The NEXUSAPITester class manages the lifecycle of a test run, including resource cleanup to prevent database pollution.
The sequence diagram illustrates the flow of a standard test suite run from registration to resource cleanup.

Frontend Testing & UI Verification
Frontend testing focuses on the React-based interface. While visual effects have been verified as high-quality, testing identified a critical routing blockage.
Visual Effects & UI Components
The testing agent confirmed the successful implementation of the following cyberpunk elements:
- Particle Background: Canvas-based animations at 1920x1080.
- Glassmorphism: Usage of
backdrop-filter: blur(20px)and semi-transparent borders. - Aesthetic Palette: Electric blue (#00D4FF), vibrant purple, and dark cyberpunk backgrounds.

Identified Issues: Routing Blockage
Testing revealed that while the backend successfully authenticates users (returning 200 OK and a JWT), the React application fails to redirect from /login to the dashboard. This creates a testing dependency where several frontend modules are currently marked as "Inaccessible."
The diagram highlights the bottleneck where the routing failure prevents testing of internal dashboard components.

Data Validation Models
Testing verifies that the data sent to and from the API adheres to the Pydantic models defined in the backend.
| Model | Key Fields | Constraints |
|---|---|---|
| Account | platform_name, monthly_cost, email_used | user_id isolation required |
| Trial | start_date, end_date, is_cancelled | ISO format dates required |
| User | username, email, hashed_password | Unique username/email |
email_address, provider, security_status | Valid Email format |

Summary of Results
As of the last test sequence, the backend is 100% operational with 20/20 automated tests passing. The frontend has successfully achieved its target cyberpunk aesthetic and authentication UI, but requires a fix in the ProtectedRoute or login redirect logic to enable verification of the management interfaces for accounts, emails, and trials.
