The QR Code Tool (internally identified as "QR Code Awl") is a comprehensive utility within the DevUtils suite designed for both generating and scanning Quick Response (QR) codes. It supports various data formats, including plain text, URLs, JSON, WiFi configurations, and vCards (Contact information), making it a versatile tool for developers and general users alike.
The tool is integrated into the DevUtils multi-tab architecture and leverages industry-standard libraries such as qrcode for generation and jsqr for scanning operations. It features a localized interface supporting English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

Functional Architecture
The QR Code Tool is divided into two primary functional modules: Generation and Scanning. These modules are presented to the user through a tabbed interface.
Generation Module
The generation module utilizes a state-driven approach to manage different data types. Users select a QRType, and the component renders specialized input fields based on that selection.
| Data Type | Input Parameters | String Format Produced |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Plain text string | Raw string |
| URL | Web address | https://... or http://... |
| JSON | Valid JSON object | Stringified JSON |
| WiFi | SSID, Password, Security (WPA/WEP/None), Hidden flag | WIFI:T:[Type];S:[SSID];P:[Pass];H:[Hidden]; |
| vCard | Name, Phone, Email, Organization, Website | BEGIN:VCARD...END:VCARD (RFC 6350) |

Scanning Module
The scanning module allows users to upload an image file containing a QR code. The system processes the image using a hidden HTML5 Canvas element and the jsqr library to extract the encoded data.
The diagram above illustrates the image processing pipeline used to decode QR codes from uploaded files.

Implementation Details
Data Sanitization
To ensure compatibility with QR readers and standards (like RFC 6350 for vCards), the tool implements internal escaping functions for special characters.
escapeWifiString: Escapes backslashes, semicolons, commas, colons, and double quotes for WiFi configuration strings.escapeVCardField: Escapes backslashes, newlines, commas, and semicolons for contact information fields.

Key Logic Flow (Generation)
The generation process is triggered via the generateQRCode callback, which performs validation before calling the external qrcode library.
The sequence diagram shows the internal method calls from user interaction to final QR image rendering.

Component State Management
The tool manages extensive UI state using React's useState hook to handle diverse input types and feedback mechanisms:
qrType: Determines the active format (text, url, wifi, vcard, json).qrImage: Stores the generated Base64 data URL for the image.scannedResult: Stores the text extracted during a scan operation.jsonError: Real-time validation for the JSON input field.

Integration with DevUtils
The QR Code Tool is registered within the toolComponents map in components/tool-content.tsx under the key qr-code. This allows it to be dynamically loaded when a user selects "QR Code Awl" from the sidebar or via the Command Palette (Cmd/Ctrl + K).

Summary
The QR Code Tool provides a robust interface for handling QR-based data. By supporting specialized formats like WiFi and vCard, it goes beyond simple text-to-code generation. Its reliance on client-side libraries ensures that data processing remains local to the user's machine, aligning with the project's "Swiss Army Knife" philosophy for modern developers.
