Ansible Role: DB2
Relevant source files

The db2 role is a core component of the merative.spm_middleware collection, designed to automate the installation and configuration of IBM Db2 server. It specifically targets environments used for the Cúram Social Program Management (SPM) Platform, providing a standardized and idempotent way to deploy the database layer.
This role handles the entire lifecycle of a Db2 deployment, including prerequisite checking, user/group management, silent installation via response files, license activation, and initial database creation. It is intended for internal test and development environments.

Installation and Execution Logic
The role follows a structured execution path defined in the main tasks file. It first validates the environment to determine if Db2 is already present by checking the db2level. If the check fails, it proceeds with the installation and configuration steps.
The execution flow ensures that the system is only modified if necessary, maintaining idempotency by checking for existing installations and database instances before attempting creation.

Technical Components
User and Group Management
The role automates the creation of mandatory Linux groups and users required by IBM Db2. This includes the database administrator, the DAS (Database Administration Server) administrator, and the fenced user for isolated stored procedures.
| Entity | Group Variable | User Variable | Default User |
|---|---|---|---|
| DB Admin | db2_db_groupname | db2_db_username | db2admin |
| DAS Admin | dasadm1 | dasusr1 | dasusr1 |
| Fenced User | db2_fenced_groupname | db2_fenced_username | (Fenced) |

Installer Orchestration
The installation process supports both local file copies and remote downloads from a centralized repository (e.g., Artifactory).
The role uses a template db2server.rsp.j2 to generate a silent response file, which is then passed to the db2setup binary for unattended installation.

Configuration and Variables
The role is highly configurable through variables defined in defaults/main.yml and version-specific files.
Key Role Variables
| Property Name | Default Value | Description |
|---|---|---|
db2_version | 12.1.1.0 | Version of Db2 to install |
db2_install_path | /opt/IBM/db2 | Target installation directory |
db2_db_create | True | Whether to create a database instance |
db2_db_name | DATABASE | Name of the database to create |
db2_bypass_prereq_check | False | Skip initial system requirement checks |
db2_db_drop_required | False | Force drop and recreate if DB exists |

Platform Specifics and Workarounds
The role includes specific logic for Rocky Linux to handle library path issues. On Rocky Linux 8 and 9, the IBM Db2 installer may not correctly link AWS SDK libraries. The role detects the distribution and version to manually create symbolic links for the following libraries:
libaws-cpp-sdk-core.solibaws-cpp-sdk-kinesis.solibaws-cpp-sdk-s3.solibaws-cpp-sdk-transfer.so

Summary
The Ansible Role: DB2 provides a robust, automated mechanism for deploying IBM Db2 within an SPM middleware stack. By encapsulating complex installation steps—such as OS-level user management, prerequisite verification, and silent response file generation—it ensures consistent database environments across development and testing lifecycles. Its integration with the broader spm_middleware collection and support for modern distributions like Rocky Linux makes it a critical component for automated infrastructure provisioning.
