Netlify Configuration
Relevant source files
The following files were used as context for generating this wiki page:
Netlify serves as the primary deployment and hosting platform for this Astro-based project. The configuration manages automated build triggers, serverless functions, environment variables, and routing redirects to support site features like the "verse of the day."

Build and Deployment
The project uses the @astrojs/netlify adapter to integrate Astro with Netlify's infrastructure. Deployment is handled through local CLI commands or automated CI/CD pipelines.
Build Commands
You can trigger deployments and previews using the following package scripts:
| Script | Command | Description |
|---|---|---|
deploy:prod | netlify deploy --build --prod | Builds the project and deploys to production. |
dev:netlify | netlify dev | Starts the local Netlify development server. |
preview | netlify deploy --build --message "..." | Creates a preview deployment with a git commit hash message. |

Deployment Flow
The following diagram illustrates the deployment process from the local environment to the Netlify production environment.
The diagram shows how package scripts trigger specific Netlify deployment types.

Serverless Functions
The project configures a specific directory for Netlify Functions to handle backend logic and scheduled tasks.
Function Configuration
The netlify.toml file defines the location of function source code:
[functions]
directory = "netlify/functions"

Daily Rebuild Function
A scheduled function named daily-rebuild automates site updates. This function triggers a Netlify build hook to refresh the "verse of the day" content.
- Schedule: Runs daily at 10:00 UTC (
0 10 * * *). - Trigger: Sends a
POSTrequest to the URL defined in theNETLIFY_BUILD_HOOK_URLenvironment variable. - Behavior: If the environment variable is missing, the function logs the event and skips the rebuild.

The diagram represents the execution flow of the scheduled rebuild function.

Environment Variables
Netlify manages sensitive tokens and configuration toggles through environment variables.
| Variable | Usage |
|---|---|
NETLIFY_BUILD_HOOK_URL | Used by the daily-rebuild function to trigger new site builds. |
CLOUDFLARE_ANALYTICS_TOKEN | Enables Cloudflare Web Analytics; only loaded when the CONTEXT variable is set to production. |
CONTEXT | Injected by Netlify to identify the build environment (e.g., production). |

Routing and Redirects
The site uses a public/_redirects file to manage path mapping and proxying, particularly for third-party integrations.
Analytics Proxying
To support privacy-focused tracking, Cloudflare Web Analytics beacons are proxied through first-party paths. Netlify handles these redirects to map internal paths to Cloudflare origins.
- Script Proxy: Maps
/beacon.min.jspaths. - RUM Proxy: Maps Real User Monitoring (RUM) data ingestion paths.

Static Preview Mapping
Because the @astrojs/netlify adapter does not implement a native astro preview, the project uses a custom script to serve the dist/ directory. This script emulates Netlify's behavior by mapping directory routes (e.g., /resume to dist/resume/index.html) without requiring trailing slashes.

Summary
The Netlify configuration integrates Astro's static generation with dynamic capabilities like scheduled rebuilds and proxied analytics. By utilizing netlify.toml for function routing and package scripts for deployment management, the system maintains a consistent pipeline for both production and preview environments.
