Data Flow and Pipelines

The 1111 project implements a simple, continuous execution pipeline designed to run a recurring task at a configurable interval. The core of the system is a main loop that performs a placeholder action, logs its progress, and then waits for a specified duration before repeating.
The data flow is straightforward: the application starts, reads configuration parameters from a config.yaml file, and then enters its primary processing loop. During execution, the only data output is structured log messages sent to the standard output. This architecture serves as a basic framework for building more complex, long-running data processing services.

System Architecture
The application consists of a main execution script, a utility module for logging, and a configuration file. The main.py script acts as the orchestrator, initializing the system based on settings in config.yaml and using helper functions from utils.py.
The following diagram illustrates the high-level interaction between the components.
This diagram shows the user starting the application, which causes main.py to read config.yaml, set up logging via utils.py, and produce console output.

Configuration
The pipeline's behavior is controlled by a YAML configuration file, specified via the --config command-line argument. The application relies on the PyYAML library to parse this file.

Configuration Parameters
The config.yaml file defines the key operational parameters for the pipeline.
| Parameter | Type | Description | Source File(s) |
|---|---|---|---|
run_name | String | A descriptive name for the execution instance, included in startup log messages. | config.yaml:1, main.py:40 |
interval_seconds | Integer | The number of seconds the pipeline waits between the end of one iteration and the start of the next. | config.yaml:2, main.py:46 |
log_level | String | Sets the verbosity of the logging output. Accepts standard Python logging levels (e.g., 'INFO', 'DEBUG'). | config.yaml:3, main.py:32 |
Execution Flow
The primary data pipeline is a continuous loop within the main function of main.py. It orchestrates the setup, execution, and delay for each cycle.

Pipeline Steps
The execution flow follows a clear sequence from initialization to the repeating loop.
- Argument Parsing: The application starts by parsing command-line arguments to find the path to the configuration file.
- Configuration Loading: It opens and reads the specified
config.yamlfile. - Logging Setup: The
setup_loggingutility is called to configure the global logger based on thelog_levelfrom the config. - Main Loop: The application enters an infinite
while Trueloop, which represents the continuous pipeline. - Task Execution: Inside the loop, it logs the start and end of an "iteration". This is where core data processing logic would be added.
- Wait Interval: The process sleeps for the duration specified by
interval_seconds. - Repeat: The loop returns to the task execution step.
The following flowchart visualizes the process defined in the main function.
This flow is orchestrated entirely within the main function.

Logging Subsystem
Logging is a key part of the application's data output, managed by the setup_logging function in utils.py. This function provides a centralized way to configure how the application reports its status.

Initialization
The setup_logging function performs the following actions:
- Retrieves the root logger instance.
- Sets the logger's level using the
log_levelvalue from the configuration file. - Creates a
StreamHandlerto direct all log output to the console (stderr by default). - Defines a format for log messages, including timestamp, log level, and the message itself.
- Adds the formatted handler to the root logger.
# utils.py:4-13
def setup_logging(log_level='INFO'):
"""Sets up the root logger."""
logger = logging.getLogger()
logger.setLevel(log_level)
handler = logging.StreamHandler(sys.stdout)
formatter = logging.Formatter(
'%(asctime)s - %(levelname)s - %(message)s'
)
handler.setFormatter(formatter)
logger.addHandler(handler)
This setup is called once at the beginning of the main function in main.py.

Summary
The 1111 project establishes a foundational data pipeline architecture. It demonstrates a clear flow of data from a configuration file through an initialization process and into a continuous execution loop. The primary data output is a stream of formatted log messages. While the current implementation contains only placeholder logic, the structure is well-suited for expansion into a more complex data processing application by adding business logic within the main execution loop.
