Webhook System
Relevant source files
The following files were used as context for generating this wiki page:The Webhook System is a critical enterprise feature designed to facilitate integrations by sending real-time event notifications from the DevSkyy platform to external services. Its implementation is a high-priority task, essential for achieving a production-ready, A+ grade system. The system is designed to be reliable, secure, and manageable through a dedicated API.
The webhook system enables event-driven architecture, allowing other applications to react to events happening within DevSkyy, such as product creation or order completion. This is a key component for building a connected and automated e-commerce ecosystem.

Core Architecture
The system is architected around a central WebhookManager that handles all aspects of webhook delivery, from event triggering to secure dispatch and retry logic. When an internal event occurs, it is passed to the manager, which then finds all subscribed endpoints, generates a secure payload, and attempts delivery.
This diagram shows the high-level data flow for a webhook delivery.

Key Components
WebhookManager
The WebhookManager is the central class responsible for the entire webhook lifecycle. It is planned to be located in agent/webhooks/webhook_manager.py.
This diagram illustrates the main responsibilities of the WebhookManager class.

Reliability and Retries
To ensure reliable delivery, the system features a robust retry mechanism. If a webhook delivery fails (e.g., due to a non-2xx response from the subscriber's server), the system will automatically retry the delivery using an exponential backoff strategy.
- Total Attempts: 25
- Total Duration: ~7 hours
This flowchart visualizes the exponential backoff retry process.

Security
Security is a primary concern for the webhook system. All outgoing webhooks are signed to ensure that subscribers can verify the authenticity and integrity of the payload.
HMAC Signature Verification
The system uses an HMAC-SHA256 signature, compliant with RFC 2104. Each outgoing webhook request includes an X-Webhook-Signature header. The subscriber can use their secret key to compute the same signature on the received payload and compare it with the one in the header to verify the request originated from DevSkyy.
The process for signature verification is a standard security check for all webhook integrations.

API Endpoints
A dedicated set of API endpoints is planned for managing webhooks, all prefixed with /api/v1/webhooks.
| Method | Endpoint | Description |
|---|---|---|
POST | /subscribe | Subscribes a new endpoint to webhook events. |
DELETE | /{id} | Deletes an existing webhook subscription. |
GET | /list | Lists all active webhook subscriptions. |
POST | /{id}/test | Sends a test event to a specific webhook. |
GET | /{id}/deliveries | Retrieves the delivery history for a webhook. |

Supported Webhook Events
The initial implementation will support key e-commerce events to enable integration with other systems.
| Event Name | Trigger |
|---|---|
product.created | A new product is created in the system. |
order.completed | An order is successfully completed. |
inventory.low | A product's inventory level drops below a threshold. |

Implementation Plan
The webhook system is part of a 4-week roadmap to upgrade the DevSkyy platform to an "A+" enterprise-ready state. Its implementation is scheduled for Week 2 and is considered a high-impact, hard-difficulty task with an estimated time of 10-12 hours.
Key Implementation Tasks
- Install dependencies:
tenacityfor retries andhttpxfor async requests. - Create
agent/webhooks/webhook_manager.pywith the core logic. - Implement HMAC-SHA256 signature generation.
- Implement exponential backoff retry logic.
- Add the required API endpoints for management.
- Integrate webhook triggers into existing agents for the defined events.
- Create comprehensive documentation for webhook consumers.

Conclusion
The webhook system is a foundational feature for making the DevSkyy platform extensible and interoperable. By providing secure, reliable, and real-time event notifications, it allows for seamless integration with third-party services, custom applications, and other automation workflows, which is a cornerstone of an enterprise-grade platform. Its successful implementation is a key milestone in the project's development roadmap.
