Component: Reactive Datatable
Relevant source files

The ReactiveDatatable is a client-side React component responsible for displaying a searchable and paginated table of cybersecurity certifications. It fetches all certification data upon initialization, utilizes Fuse.js for efficient client-side searching, and manages its own state for loading, errors, search queries, and pagination. This component is a core part of the user experience for browsing the certification database.
The component is designed to be dynamic, reacting to user input in the search bar and changes in the URL for pagination. It leverages pre-computed search indexes to ensure fast search performance even with a large dataset.
Architecture and Component Structure
The ReactiveDatatable component is a composite component that orchestrates several smaller, reusable React components to build its UI.
The diagram below illustrates the hierarchy of components that make up the ReactiveDatatable.
This diagram shows that ReactiveDatatable uses HeaderSearchBar, Table, and Pagination as its main building blocks. The Table itself is composed of standard table elements and custom column-rendering components.

Component Properties
The ReactiveDatatable component accepts the following props:
| Prop | Type | Default Value | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
loading | ReactNode | - | A React node to display while the initial data is being fetched. |
base_url | string | /database | The base URL for the API endpoints without a trailing slash. |

Data Flow and State Management
Initialization and Data Fetching
On component mount, a useEffect hook orchestrates the entire data loading and initialization process. It reads the initial page number and search query from the URL's search parameters. It then fetches the full certification dataset and a pre-computed Fuse.js index in parallel.
The following sequence diagram illustrates the data fetching process:
This parallel fetching strategy, using radash.all, improves loading performance by requesting both essential data sources simultaneously. The use of a pre-computed index, fetched from /data-index.json, allows Fuse.js to be initialized very quickly without needing to build the index on the client side.

State Management
The component uses several useState hooks to manage its internal state.
| State Variable | Type | Initial Value | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
is_loading | boolean | true | Tracks the initial data loading state. |
error | `string | null` | null |
all_raw_data | CertificationMetadataCollection | [] | An array containing all certification objects, used when no search query is active. |
all_data | Fuse<CertificationMetadata> | new Fuse([]) | A Fuse.js instance containing all data and the search index. Used for performing searches. |
query | `string | null` | null |
pagination | object | { page: 1, ... } | An object containing the current page, total pages, and items per page. |
url_search_params | URLSearchParams | undefined | Stores the URL search parameters to help construct pagination links. |

Search and Filtering
Client-side search is powered by the Fuse.js library, which is listed as a dependency in package.json.
The search logic is encapsulated within a useMemo hook that calculates display_data. This ensures that the data is only re-filtered when the search query or the underlying dataset changes.
The flow for determining the displayed data is as follows:
When a query is present, the component uses the all_data Fuse.js instance to perform the search. If the query is empty or null, it falls back to showing all_raw_data. The search results then determine the total_pages for pagination.

Pagination
Pagination logic is handled through a combination of the pagination state and the pagination_url memoized value.
Pagination State
The pagination state object tracks the core pagination metrics:
{
page: 1,
total_pages: 1,
per_page: 10,
}
page: The currently viewed page, initialized from the URL or defaulting to 1.total_pages: Calculated based on the number of items indisplay_dataandper_page.per_page: A fixed value of 10 items per page.

Pagination Links
The pagination_url object is calculated using useMemo and is responsible for generating the href attributes for all pagination buttons (Previous, Next, page numbers, etc.). It uses the url_search_params state to preserve other URL parameters (like the search query) when navigating between pages.

Data Slicing
The data displayed in the table for the current page is derived by slicing the display_data array.
display_data.slice(
(pagination.page - 1) * pagination.per_page,
pagination.page * pagination.per_page,
)
This logic ensures that only the records for the active page are rendered in the TableBody.

Rendering Logic
The component's render output is divided into three main sections: the search bar, the table, and the pagination controls.
Conditional Rendering
The TableBody implements conditional rendering to handle different states:
- Loading State: If
is_loadingis true, it displays theloadingprop inside a single table cell spanning all columns. - Error State: If an
errorstring is present, it displays the error message in red. - No Results: If
is_loadingis false, there is no error, anddisplay_datais empty, it shows a "No results found" message. - Data Display: Otherwise, it maps over the sliced
display_datato render each certification in aTableRow.

Table Columns
Each row in the table renders three main columns, using specialized components for consistent presentation:
- Certification: Handled by
ColCertification, which shows the title, acronym, and provider. - Certification paths: Handled by
ColCertificationPath. - More details: Handled by
ColMoreDetails, which includes a link to the certification's detail page and its price.
These column components are responsible for the layout and styling of the data within each cell.

Conclusion
The ReactiveDatatable component is a sophisticated and self-contained module for presenting and interacting with certification data. By combining client-side state management, efficient searching with Fuse.js and pre-computed indexes, and a clear, component-based architecture, it provides a fast and responsive user experience. Its reliance on declarative React patterns (useEffect, useMemo) and composition of smaller UI components (Table, Pagination) makes it a robust and maintainable part of the CyberPath application.
