Feature: Album Management
Relevant source files
The following files were used as context for generating this wiki page:The Album Management feature provides users with the ability to organize their photos into collections called albums. It is a core organizational tool within the PIXONA application, accessible from the main sidebar.
Currently, the user interface for viewing albums is implemented but is populated with static mock data for demonstration purposes. The backend infrastructure, including the database schema for storing album and photo relationship data, is defined within IndexedDB, indicating a clear path for full implementation. The application roadmap explicitly includes "Custom album creation" as a future enhancement.

Architecture and Data Flow
The Album Management feature is composed of a frontend React component for display, a database schema for data persistence, and mock data that currently serves as a placeholder.
UI Component: Albums Page
The main user interface for this feature is the Albums page component.
- File:
src/pages/Albums.tsx - Purpose: Renders the list of albums in a grid layout.
- Key Elements:
- A
ViewHeaderdisplaying the title "Albums". - A "New Album" button, which is currently a UI element without a defined action.
- A grid that maps over
mockAlbumsto display each album's cover image, name, and photo count. - A
StatusBarat the bottom showing the total number of albums.
- A

The following diagram illustrates the rendering flow of the current Albums page.
Navigation
Users access the Album Management feature via a dedicated link in the main application sidebar.
- Component:
Sidebar.tsx - Details: The sidebar contains a
NavLinkconfigured for the albums view.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
title | "Albums" |
url | /albums |
icon | FolderOpen |

Data Model and Storage
The persistence layer for albums is defined in the application's IndexedDB setup, even though it is not yet fully utilized by the UI. The schema establishes a many-to-many relationship between photos and albums.

Database Schema
The application's IndexedDB (pixona_photos_db) is designed with an albums object store.
This ER diagram shows the relationship between the photos and albums object stores. A photo can belong to multiple albums (albumIds array), and an album can contain multiple photos (photoIds array).

Album Interface
The Album interface defines the structure for an album object stored in the database.
| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
id | string | Unique identifier for the album (Primary Key). |
name | string | The user-defined name of the album. |
description | string (optional) | A description for the album. |
created | Date | The creation timestamp of the album. |
photoIds | string[] | An array of photo IDs belonging to this album. |
coverPhotoId | string (optional) | The ID of the photo to be used as the album cover. |

Photo-Album Link
The link between a photo and an album is established via the albumIds field in the PhotoMetadata interface. When a photo is added to an album, the album's id should be added to this array.

Current Implementation (Mock Data)
The Albums.tsx page currently relies on a mock data structure for rendering. This data serves as a placeholder until the database integration is complete.
- File:
src/lib/mockData.ts - Variable:
mockAlbums
The structure of a mock album object is as follows:
| Field | Type | Example Value |
|---|---|---|
id | string | "album-1" |
name | string | "Summer Vacation 2024" |
photoCount | number | 324 |
coverUrl | string | "https://picsum.photos/seed/album1/400/400" |
Sources: src/lib/mockData.ts:15-20
Note the difference between the mock data structure (coverUrl, photoCount) and the database Album interface (coverPhotoId, photoIds). The UI will need to be adapted to use the database schema in the future.
Future Functionality
The codebase implies several planned features for album management.
Creating a New Album
The "New Album" button in Albums.tsx currently has no functionality. A future implementation would likely involve a dialog to name the new album and an operation to add a new entry to the albums object store in IndexedDB.
The following sequence diagram outlines a potential flow for creating a new album.

Adding Photos to an Album
The BatchEditDialog component, used for editing metadata of multiple photos, could be extended to add selected photos to an album. This would involve updating the albumIds array for each selected PhotoMetadata object in the database.

Summary
The Album Management feature is a foundational part of the PIXONA application's organizational capabilities. While the front-end is currently in a preliminary state using mock data, the underlying database schema in src/lib/db.ts is well-defined and supports a robust implementation. Future work will involve connecting the UI to the database, implementing the "New Album" functionality, and providing a mechanism to add and remove photos from albums, likely through components like the BatchEditDialog.
