UI Component System (shadcn/ui)
Relevant source files
The following files were used as context for generating this wiki page:The Pixona application utilizes shadcn/ui, a component library system, to build its modern, Apple Photos-inspired user interface. This system is not a traditional component library but rather a collection of reusable, composable, and accessible components built on top of Radix UI primitives and styled with Tailwind CSS. This architecture allows for maximum flexibility and ownership over the codebase, as components are added directly to the project's source tree under src/components/ui.
The system is configured to support a dark-by-default theme, with an optional light theme, extensive use of CSS variables for theming, and a set of custom animations and styles to create a cohesive and polished user experience. The core philosophy is to provide beautifully designed, unstyled primitives that can be customized and extended to fit the application's specific needs.

Architecture and Configuration
The UI component system's foundation is defined by a few key configuration files that work together to establish the styling, theming, and structure of the components.
Sources: components.json, tailwind.config.ts, src/index.css
Configuration Flow
The following diagram illustrates how the configuration files interact to build the final UI styling.
This diagram shows that components.json configures the shadcn/ui CLI and informs the Tailwind configuration. src/index.css defines the core CSS variables (themes), which are consumed by tailwind.config.ts. The Tailwind engine processes these configurations and the component classes to generate the final application styles.

tailwind.config.ts
This file extends Tailwind's default theme to incorporate the project's design system. It consumes the CSS variables defined in src/index.css to create a fully themeable color palette.
Key extensions include:
- Colors: Custom color names (e.g.,
border,input,background,primary) are mapped to their corresponding HSL CSS variables. This allows for dynamic theme switching. It also defines a customappcolor palette for application-specific elements. - Keyframes and Animations: A rich set of keyframes for animations like
accordion-down,fade-in,slide-in-right, andshimmerare defined. These are then mapped to animation utility classes. - Border Radius: Defines
lg,md, andsmborder-radius values based on the--radiusCSS variable.
// Example from tailwind.config.ts
extend: {
colors: {
border: "hsl(var(--border))",
input: "hsl(var(--input))",
// ... other colors
app: {
bg: "hsl(var(--app-bg))",
surface: "hsl(var(--app-surface))",
// ... other app colors
},
},
keyframes: {
"accordion-down": {
from: { height: "0" },
to: { height: "var(--radix-accordion-content-height)" },
},
// ... other keyframes
},
animation: {
"accordion-down": "accordion-down 0.2s ease-out",
// ... other animations
},
},

Theming
Theming is managed through CSS variables defined in src/index.css. The project supports both a default dark theme and a light theme, which can be toggled by adding or removing the .light class from the <html> element.
CSS Variables
A comprehensive set of HSL-based color variables are defined within the :root selector for the default (dark) theme. An override for these variables is provided within the .light class selector.
/* src/index.css */
@layer base {
:root {
--background: 0 0% 4%;
--foreground: 0 0% 95%;
--card: 0 0% 6%;
--primary: 211 100% 52%;
--border: 0 0% 16%;
--radius: 0.5rem;
/* Custom PIXONA tokens */
--app-bg: 0 0% 4%;
--app-surface: 0 0% 6%;
--app-accent: 211 100% 52%;
}
.light {
--background: 0 0% 100%;
--foreground: 0 0% 10%;
/* ... other light theme overrides */
}
}

Custom PIXONA Tokens
In addition to the standard shadcn/ui variables, a set of custom "app" tokens are defined for PIXONA-specific UI elements, ensuring a consistent look and feel.
| Token | Dark Value (HSL) | Light Value (HSL) | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
--app-bg | 0 0% 4% | 0 0% 98% | The main application background color. |
--app-surface | 0 0% 6% | 0 0% 100% | Surface color for elements like settings cards. |
--app-hover | 0 0% 10% | 0 0% 94% | Hover state color. |
--app-border | 0 0% 16% | 0 0% 88% | Border color for app-specific components. |
--app-text | 0 0% 95% | 0 0% 10% | Primary text color. |
--app-text-muted | 0 0% 60% | 0 0% 45% | Muted text color for secondary information. |
--app-accent | 211 100% 52% | 211 100% 48% | The main accent color for buttons and highlights. |
--app-accent-hover | 211 100% 45% | 211 100% 42% | Hover state for accent-colored elements. |
