Remote Access (FTP/SFTP)

Remote Access provides the ability to connect Acode to external servers using File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). This feature integrates remote files directly into the Acode file system, allowing you to edit and manage server-side code as if it were stored locally.
The system utilizes the File Browser Home View to manage these connections alongside internal storage and SD cards. Users manage these connections through the "Add Connection" menu, which facilitates secure and standard remote file operations.

Connection Management
You configure and manage remote connections through the Home View of the File Browser. The interface separates local paths from remote server connections, providing specialized setup flows for different protocols.
Adding Connections
To establish a new link to a server:
- Open the File Browser.
- Tap the Add Connection (+ icon) in the top bar.
- Select the protocol: Add FTP or Add SFTP.
- Enter the required server credentials and configuration details.

Connection Maintenance
The File Browser menu provides global actions for maintaining established connections. You access these via the Menu (three vertical dots) in the Home View.
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Reload | Refreshes the list of active and saved connections. |
| Reset Connections | Clears all saved remote connections and local paths from the app. |

Remote File Operations
Once connected, remote directories behave similarly to local folders within the Acode environment.
Workflow Integration
The following diagram illustrates the lifecycle of a remote connection within the File Browser:

File Manipulation
Remote files support standard context actions via long-press:
- Delete: Permanently removes the item from the remote server.
- Rename: Modifies the filename on the remote filesystem.
- Info: Displays remote properties such as permissions and full URI.
- Copy URI: Copies the remote path to the clipboard.

Network Configuration
Acode includes specific application settings to handle the instability often associated with remote network connections. These are found under Settings → App Settings → Network & Updates.
Configuration Options
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Retry Remote | Automatically attempts to reconnect to FTP/SFTP servers if a connection failure occurs. |

The following sequence diagram demonstrates how Acode handles a remote request with retry logic enabled:

Summary
Remote Access (FTP/SFTP) extends Acode's functionality by bridging the gap between mobile editing and remote server management. By integrating these protocols into the standard File Browser, the app provides a unified workspace for both local and cloud-based development. The inclusion of automatic retry mechanisms ensures a more resilient workflow during network fluctuations.
