Workspace Management in Acode organizes your files, projects, and active sessions within a unified interface. It integrates local storage, remote connections, and terminal environments to provide a centralized hub for development activities on Android.
The system relies on the File Browser as its primary interface for managing project structures and the Active Workspace for quick access during editing. Users can further customize their environment through App Settings to ensure continuity between application launches.

File Browser and Connections
The File Browser manages project entry points through the Home View. This view coordinates connections to internal storage, external SD cards via the Storage Access Framework (SAF), and remote servers using FTP/SFTP protocols.
Connection Management
You add storage paths or remote servers through the Add Connection menu. The application supports standard FTP and secure SFTP connections.
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Add Path | Selects local folders using Android SAF. |
| Add FTP | Sets up standard FTP server connections. |
| Add SFTP | Sets up secure SFTP server connections. |
| Reset Connections | Clears all saved remote paths and connections. |

Navigation Flow
The following diagram illustrates the transition from global connection management to specific project interaction.
The diagram shows the flow from the Home View hub to establishing connections and activating a workspace.

Active Workspace and Sidebar
The Active Workspace is the folder currently loaded into the sidebar for rapid access. You define the active workspace by navigating to a folder in the File Browser and clicking the Open (check) button at the bottom right.
Managing Project Content
Once inside a folder, you use the creation menu to initialize work:
- New Project: Initializes projects from built-in templates.
- Import Project: Extracts and imports content from
.zipfiles. - New File/Folder: Creates basic file system nodes.

State Persistence
Acode manages workspace state through specific application settings that determine how files and folders are restored upon restart.
| Setting | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Remember Files | Reopens previously open file tabs on launch. |
| Remember Folders | Reopens previously open folders on launch. |
| Active Files | Configures display location: Tab area, Sidebar, or Bottom. |
| Exclude Files | Uses glob patterns (e.g., **/node_modules/**) to prevent indexing. |

Integrated Environments
Workspace management extends beyond the file system to include terminal environments and external integrations.
Terminal Integration
The terminal provides a full Alpine Linux environment using proot. You can use the acode CLI tool within the terminal to manipulate the workspace directly (e.g., acode . opens the current terminal directory in the editor).

Third-Party Integration (Termux)
For advanced workflows like Java development, you can link projects stored in external environments like Termux to the Acode workspace using the Add Path feature.
This diagram demonstrates the sequence of linking an external Termux project directory to the Acode workspace.

Workspace Customization
Workspace behavior is further defined by editor-level configurations that affect how files are handled within the active project.
- Autosave: Automatically saves workspace changes after a defined delay (>= 1000ms).
- Format on Save: Runs language-specific formatters when files are saved.
- Check File Changes: Monitors the workspace for external modifications and notifies the user.

Summary
Workspace Management in Acode centralizes local and remote file access while providing tools for state persistence and environment integration. By utilizing the File Browser to establish connections and the Active Workspace to focus editing, users maintain a structured development environment on mobile hardware.
