CI/CD Pipeline (Future)
Relevant source files
The following files were used as context for generating this wiki page:This document outlines a future Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline for the TAF-SAF project, based on its current structure as a Next.js application. The project is bootstrapped with create-next-app and includes scripts and configurations that form the basis for an automated build, quality check, and deployment process.
The proposed pipeline leverages the existing npm scripts for linting and building the application. The deployment strategy is heavily guided by the recommendation to use the Vercel Platform, as mentioned in the project's documentation. This pipeline aims to automate the process from code commit to a live production deployment.

Pipeline Overview
A typical CI/CD pipeline for this project would consist of three main stages: Lint, Build, and Deploy. On every push to the main branch, the pipeline would automatically execute these stages to ensure code quality and deploy the latest version of the application.
The following diagram illustrates the high-level flow of the proposed pipeline.
This diagram shows the proposed automated workflow from a code push to a successful deployment.

Core Pipeline Stages
The pipeline is built upon the scripts defined in package.json. These scripts are the fundamental commands for testing, building, and running the application.

1. Code Quality (Linting)
The first stage in the CI pipeline is to run static code analysis to catch errors and enforce coding standards. The project is configured with a lint script that uses Next.js's built-in ESLint configuration.
- Command:
npm run lint - Purpose: To statically analyze the TypeScript/JavaScript code for potential issues.
- Configuration: The linting process is influenced by the TypeScript configuration, which is set to
strict.

"lint": "next lint"
}

The TypeScript compiler options in tsconfig.json enforce strict type-checking, which the next lint command utilizes.

"strict": true,
"noEmit": true
}

2. Build
After the linting stage passes, the CI server will build the application for production. The build script compiles the TypeScript code, bundles assets, and optimizes the application for performance.
- Command:
npm run build - Purpose: Creates a production-ready version of the Next.js application.
- Process: This command invokes
next build, which reads the project configuration fromnext.config.tsandtsconfig.json, processes all source files likesrc/app/page.tsxandsrc/app/layout.tsx, and handles assets like those defined insrc/app/globals.css.
The following diagram outlines the build process.
This diagram shows the steps executed by the npm run build command.

3. Deployment
The final stage is Continuous Deployment. The README.md and the main application page both strongly recommend deploying the application using the Vercel Platform. Vercel offers seamless integration with GitHub repositories, automatically triggering deployments on code pushes.
The deployment flow with Vercel would be as follows:
- A developer pushes code to the main branch of the GitHub repository.
- A webhook from GitHub triggers a new deployment on Vercel.
- Vercel automatically runs the
next buildcommand. - If the build is successful, Vercel deploys the application and makes it available to users.
This automated flow is a key feature of the Vercel platform.
This sequence diagram illustrates the automated deployment process using Vercel.

Summary of Scripts
The following table summarizes the key npm scripts available in the project that would be used in a CI/CD environment.
| Script | Command | Description | CI/CD Stage |
|---|---|---|---|
lint | next lint | Runs ESLint to check for code quality and potential errors. | Integration (CI) |
build | next build | Compiles and bundles the application for production. | Integration (CI) |
start | next start | Starts the production server after a successful build. Used by Vercel. | Deployment (CD) |
dev | next dev | Runs a development server with hot-reloading. Not used in CI/CD. | Development |
